Create films with a video editor
You can create your own videos in Windows.
Video Editor app
The Video Editor app has a set of video creation and editing tools, allowing you to include music, text, motion, and 3D effects. It's a successor to Movie Maker, with a focus on easy-to-use creative tools that help you tell your story.
To create a new video that you can edit from start to finish:
- Type video editor into the Search bar and select Video Editor to open the app—or you can open it from the Start menu.
- Select New video project.
- Name your video and select OK.
- Select Add, then select the location you want to add photos or videos from—you can even use From the webto find content on Bing.
- Select the photos or videos you want to use.
- Drag photos and videos to your Storyboard.
After you've organized your Storyboard, you can change the look and feel of each photo or video clip.
- Select a photo or video in the Storyboard.
- Select Duration to change the length of time a photo is displayed, or select multiple photos and then select Duration to change the duration for all the selected photos at once.
- Select a button like Trim or Split for editing (video clips only), or Text or Motion (photos or video clips).
Add text
You can add text to photos and video clips with ease. You can also create a title card from the Storyboard if you'd like to add text to a plain colored background.
Simply select a photo or video, select Text, type a title or phrase, then select a style and layout. You can also time the text to appear exactly when you want within your film. When you've selected all your options, select Done.
Add effects
You can add special effects to your photos and video clips. Select any of the following options:
- Filters—adds a visual treatment to your video clip or photo (for example, making it black & white)
- Motion—gives photos more visual interest
- Duration—adjusts the timing of a video clip
- Rotate—changes the orientation of a photo or video
- Remove or show black bars—zooms in and removes the letterboxing effect if your photo or video is a different aspect ratio than your project
Add 3D objects
- Select 3D effects then select an effect you want to use, or select 3D library for more options.
- Rotate and size the object and add animations as well. You can add, move, and size 3D effects. You can also anchor an effect to a point in a video clip and watch the effect move along.
- Select Done.
Add music
Select Background music to choose from several tracks, and if desired, select Sync your video to the beat, then select Done. Or select Custom audio at the top of the page to add and time your own music tracks, narration, or sound effects.
Publish your video
When you've completed your project, select Finish video, then select Export to publish your film. You can control video quality if you wish.
Additionally, you can select See more () and then use Duplicate project to copy your video. Or you can use Back up project to share your project or save your progress to share between multiple users and devices. You can also let us know how you’re liking Video Editor by using Send feedback.
To open one of your backed-up projects and continue working, you can go back to the Video Editor main page, select See more () and then select Import backup.
